3D remake of the first Sonic game coming for the 3DS

A 3D remake of the first Sonic game will be coming for the 3DS. SEGA announced the game today, and it's coming out in Japan on May 15th for the 3DS' eShop as part of the 3D Classics series. There hasn't been an announcement of the game coming out in other regions, but I'm sure it'll come out in other regions in the near future. The game will have 3D stereoscopic visuals, as well as the Spin Dash and Homing Attack. Sonic didn't have the Spin Dash in the first game, so this is a new addition. There will also be a save feature, a level select, and customizable controls.

All kidding aside, I don't see why they need to release this game again. They've done it many, many times, some with less than stellar results (I'm looking at YOU Sonic Genesis!). Personally, I'll just slap the cartridge in the Sega Genesis if I want to play Sonic 1.

And really, how can you customize the controls when there is only one button to work with?

But, yeah, I'm anticipating the next 3D Sonic game to come soon. I mean, Sega has been on a constant cycle of releasing 3D Sonic games every 1-2 years (except for the gap between SA2 and Heroes, but they were restructuring the company then), so a new 3D Sonic game is due this year.

I think it's coming soon too as Sonic Colors (2010) and Sonic Generations (2011) were the last games released. I'm kind of hoping the next one is a Nintendo (Wii U/3DS) exclusive like Colors was (Wii/DS).
