How do you feel about clones in Super Smash Bros?
Clones are a staple of the Super Smash Bros. games, and in this topic, I'm asking you how you feel about them. Personally, I don't think clones are bad, but I wish there was less of them. More original characters, especially a clone-less Ganondorf, would be good.

When I saw the name of the topic, I thought we were going to discuss human cloning!
Anyway, I would like to see Ganondorf have a new moveset, preferably one that includes him using his sword. You see it in one of his taunts, but why can't I use it?

For me, there are two types of clones:
1. Characters with a copied but adjusted moveset. These are not totally bad, al long as there's enough difference and it had to be done (Luigi, for example, or Ganondorf in Melee). So not three types of Fox movesets!
2. Characters that are basically identique, but different appearance, sounds etc. This is great for SSB4 and I'd love to see these. Wider roster, but no impact on metagame.

Personally, I'm okey with having a few. But keep it to a limit that does not outweigh the number of original characters.
There are some good things about clones. For example, if you like Ganondorf's moveset but are more of a offensive player, Captain Falcon can fix that little situation.
So, the positive thing about the presence of clones is their ability to provide choice. But too much of anything is never a good thing. Too much clones will reduce the roster diversity and indevidual character identities.

I personally think they're annoying. It's one thing for a character to fight similarly to another, such as Fox and Falco, but I hate it when they squander a character's potential for the sake of making it a clone. Toon Link is a good example of this. They could've easily developed a new move set for him out of the items he finds in Wind Waker, or even Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks. But no. They carbon-copied normal Link's moves "just 'cuz". I feel if the character has the potential to be unique, they should be.

Remember you have to keep in mind, the more characters there are the harder it becomes to balance them accordingly.
While I'm not exactly fond of clones, they keep balancing issues to a minimal.
