Nintendo Announces Wii U Price Cut
I am certain many of us recall what happened to the 3DS early on its lifetime. This situation resulted in a $80 price cut, and even the Ambassador's program, which took effect just a few months after the system's debut. During this event, many would have thought Nintendo learned their lesson, and such a thing would not happen again.
Well, apparently, it just did. Welcome to the 3DS crisis... Part 2! Well, perhaps that is not the most appropriate name. Anyways, it appears that history is repeating itself as Nintendo has just announced a Wii U price cut. This price cuts will take effect on September 20th, and will reduce the original price of the Wii U deluxe system from $349.99 to 299.99. Yup! Beginning September 20th, you will be able to purchase a Wii U deluxe system for the price of the Basic model.
At this point, some may be wondering what happens to the Basic model, right? Well, according to the report, the 8GB White Basic model will be cancelled. So, if you are in possession of this model, you may soon have a collector's item in your hands. So, keep a sharp eye out for what may happen in the near future.

That's good to hear. The Deluxe model is great, so dropping the price to the price of the Basic model is definitely a good idea. Hopefully it'll be able to drive up sales for the console.

Yay for collector's item!
This was a smart move by Nintendo, although it's pretty obvious why the price wasn't dropped sooner: they were already selling it at a loss. Instead of dropping the price of the Basic model to further the amount of losses Nintendo is taking, they just reduced the price of the Deluxe model, so they really aren't taking that big of a hit anyway, at least in terms of hardware.

I just hope that early adopters also get some kind of ambassador system. I don't think that the Virtual Console Promotion should count as that was made for an entirely different purpose in mind. Also those games would have only added up to $2.30
