If a recent Nintendo of Europe newsletter is correct, Mario Kart 8 may be coming in 2014. According to the newsletter, the expected release date of the game is April 2014. No official release date has been announced by Nintendo, so this may be just a tentative release date.

There is a precedent at least; Mario Kart Wii came out in April, so this seems to be quite plausible. The Wii U needs a system seller like that to be released soon.
