Pokémon Generation VI Empty Pokémon Generation VI

Post by DuxTape Tue Jan 08, 2013 10:19 am

Yes, GameFreak decided it was time for the sixth generation of Pokémon. The new Pokémon will be featured in two games called Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, coming out october of this year for 3DS in all countries!

It's a 3D experience, it doesn't quite look like the older games, it's way more realistic. It's still quite the same, though: Running in tall grass will force you to battle with Pokémon, battles are still turn-based like they always were. The game follows up Gen V in terms of battle scene improvement: The camera will turn to show you own Pokémon from the front.

As always, you can start off with 1 from 3 different Pokémon: Chespin (shaped like a chipmunk), the Grass-starter, Fennekin (shaped like a fox), the Fire-starter and Froakie (shaped like a frog), the Water-starter. Two unnamed Legendaries, shaped like some dragon and a deer, are also shown. Examining the logos (X and Y), you can see that the deer is for X and the dragon is for Y.

(This here is speculation and not confirmed):
If there would be a third installment, it would likely be called Pokémon Z, but we can't be sure: GameFreak didn't go for the obvious Pokémon Grey either.

This is what makes me get a 3DS. Pikmin 3 was the game that cemented my need for Wii U so now between February and October, I need to buy myself a 3DS. Of course this means that there will be no trading between BW/2 and XY. So I understand why the worldwide release.

This is what I've been waiting for for years - a fully 3D Pokemon game with the gameplay of the main games rather than the modified ones of Colosseum and XD. The battle gameplay is just great.

I really hope they connect Gen VI with Gen V. Gen V did this not at all with any of the previous four generations: Not a single new evolution for an older Pokémon was introduced (this is one of my complains on B/W: Trying to be too much R/B/Y).

I don't usually like it when they make new evolutions for old 'mons, so I'd be happier if they didn't. Things are contrived enough as it is.

I'd be more concerned about being able to trade/transfer Pokémon forward into X/Y. The 2nd gen-3rd gen cutoff still irritates me.

Pokémon Generation VI Empty Re: Pokémon Generation VI

This is the type of approach to the game I've been conceptualizing and hoping that the developers would eventually implement such a concept as the one I've been dreaming of.

The transition from a world overview approach to a more third person approach is hopefully going to be widely accepted. The only thing that could make this better is a re-conceptualized battle system.

One where you get to control your own pokemon in a 3D environment, similar to Super Mario 64's environment. You can give it a smash like control system for battles and the items and other options can go on the bottom screen with touch based controls.

When I told my friends about this idea, they said flying pokemon will have a major advantage. But in my concept, each attack has a predefined range. If your target is within range, triggering the button for the dedicated move will result in an animation to illustrate the attack...with the same accuracy of course.

This is what I hope Pokemon can become someday.

Edit:
I moved this topic to the Nintendo News forum because the the article felt more like a news topic than a discussion topic.

Heck Yeah, I haven't bought a Pokemon game since Pearl. Now that it's finally coming to 3DS, I'm definitely going to get it. Generation VI is gonna be awesome!

Update:

The names of the Legendaries shown in the trailer are revealed.
The x-like deer is called Xerneas.
The y-like bird/dragon is called Yveltal.

I wonder what the names mean.
