Sakurai: Next Super Smash Bros. games won't have a story mode or cutscenes; 3DS version will have a new game mode

In a recent Famitsu column, Sakurai talked about a possible story mode for the next Super Smash Bros. games. According to him, players uploading clips of the Subspace Emissary ruined the surprise for players who hadn't played it yet. He said that this time around, they'll concentrate on making videos of the new characters, which he thinks will be beneficial to share with others. From this, it can be gathered that there may not be a story mode in the next games. Here's what he had to say:

“Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewardsfor playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”

He also mentioned that there will be a new gameplay mode in the 3DS version of the game, which will “act as a separate mode from the standard versus play.”

His logic is ugh.

Agreed.  I mean, since you can upload any cutscene to YouTube, what's the point of having cutscenes in any game at all then?  It's still enjoyable, and people who want to avoid spoilers (such as myself) will avoid those YouTube videos.

I like them, and I think most anyone in the gaming community will agree that having cutscenes in a game definitely adds to it.
