SWC Points System
Hello! Beginning today, a points system will be available. The points system allows members to gain points for taking part in various forum activity. These include (but don't limit to) posting comments and creating threads. Administrators and moderators may also award points to members when they want to. This means that activities, like Member-Created Games, can award points to winners and stuff...
So, why earn points? I'm still thinking of possible prizes and stuff. I will talk to Lugia about prizes too.
But go ahead and earn as much points as you can.

Re: SWC Points System
Sounds like a good idea to encourage community involvement, but maybe you should make some more concrete guidelines.

Oh cool, this sounds interesting. Although there should be strict guidelines to prevent spamming.

Re: SWC Points System
Guidelines are coming alongside the final decision regarding prizes. If you guys have any suggestions, feel free to let us know.
Also, spamming is against the Forum Rules and Regulations. So, that should cover that concern for the meantime.

Honestly, I don't really care if there are any prizes. Sure, that's some incetive, but I just like collecting things for the sake of collecting things. Which is why I like to 100% my games, even if it gives me nothing for doing so.
Still, I doubt everybody's going to have the same opinion as me, so what were you thinking prize-wise?

Then it's better if I'm renaming (making a new account with another name) right now, or it will cost me points in the future.
I hope Marth or Lugia finds out whether or not a name change is possible, but otherwise I just have to make a new account.

Yes, we can change usernames. However, only administrators have the power to do so.
As for the prizes, yes! We are considering that name canges be one of the choices. However, since we just recently began using this system, I'll let you change your name for free. But once we do decide on prizes (and you guys can also make suggestions), it will cost points.
So, what would you like to change it to?
Re: SWC Points System
I'd like to change my username to "DuxTape".
This is the name I use in Minecraft and all different games as well.
Thanks for letting me change my name for free, by the way.

Re: SWC Points System
Why the heck would you charge someone points to change their name? I dunno, this sounds kinda weird. I don't see the "point" to this system here... there's no incentive to earn them, there's no reason to earn them... unless you're going to start charging points to make posts or create a topic too?

Re: SWC Points System
Well, the "point" of this points system is to increase participation. What other forums do is give prizes in exchange for points. The name change thing is something that is also done in the clan forum I'm in. Basically, you need x number of points to be able to request a name change. This is an example of a prize. The reason being is, only admins have the power to change usernames. If granted by request, some future user might be tempted to repeatedly request a name change because maybe they never gave it enough thought or maybe they want to troll someone. This might also be a task for administrators in the future. Only tie will tell.
Basically, you earn a certain number of points for various activities. For example, the comment you just made gave you 1 point, starting a thread or topic gives you 3 points. These points you earn can then (once we get a final decision made) be exchanged for various "prizes". Name changes just happens to be one of hem.
Moderators and Administrators can also award points to users. So, in a tournament or contest, awarding x number of points to the winner is an option.
Just imagine this point system as being your local Chuck E Cheese, its kind of immature but appropriate for comparison purposes. You earn tickets (points) by taking part in various games (forum activities) then later exchange the tickets you earned for prizes (the prizes we are coming up with).
And you don't really have to worry about earning points or getting prizes if you dislike the idea. You can just continue doing what you usually do and it won't hurt anything (although, you will see your smash points value go up as you post). It is just for whoever like the idea.

Re: SWC Points System
I agree with Rollup, in that we shouldn't charge points for a name change. That's a service that shouldn't be restricted in any way. Even if some new user requests a name change repeatedly, you could easily just deny them, and I don't see that as a probable scenario anyway.
This points system should be used for legitimate "prizes", not as currency to charge users for services that should be provided as part of regular forum participation, such as a name change for a regular user.

Currently, it is just a suggestion. It is not yet final. We are still evaluating all options available.
Re: SWC Points System
What about being able to suggest a poll?

Thanks, when I made a Minecraft account, I wanted to have DuckTape as my name, but that name was already taken, so I replaced "ck" with "x". Dux is also Latin for "team captain" and Latin is one of my favourite subjects.

Quite interesting. We can also consider that.

So that's the etymology of the word "Dux". I can't speak for America, but the student who gets the best results in Year 12 at secondary school here is given Dux (last year, me!). I'm with you on the learning languages too; Italian was one of my favourite subjects. Off-topic, I know, but still interesting.

Hate to interupt this conversation but we are starting to get a bit off topic here. DuxTape has a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] where you can direct such questions. Please do so from now on.
Thank you!
Thank you!

That's cool, I didn't even know that.
