Pokemon X and Y: Charizard X
Last month, Nintendo revealed that Charizard would have a Mega Evolution. Well, as revealed recently, there's two Mega Evolution forms - Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y. What it evolves into depends on what Mega Stone Charizard is holding. If it is holding Charizardite X, it evolves into Mega Charizard X, which is a Fire/Dragon type, and if it is holding Charizardite Y, it evolves into Mega Charizard Y, which has a higher Special Attack and the Drought ability.

Whoa. I'm blown away by the creativity of the name "Charizardite."
...does Charizard really need two new forms?

I think this is an interesting idea. It adds variety to the game. Although, if each item is exclusive one version or the other, and a player with Pokemon Y wants Charizard X, there might be a problem.halibabica wrote:Whoa. I'm blown away by the creativity of the name "Charizardite."

But one thing is for certain: Charizard X is way cooler than Charizard Y!

Personally, I'm not too enthralled by these mega evolutions. They sound like an unnecessary gimmick in a game that's already too big for its britches. Charizard was awesome enough when it had one form. Call me old-fashioned, but I just don't see the point.

Re: Pokemon X and Y: Charizard X
From my understanding, these "mega evolutions" are used as, if I may, stat boosters (sort of). They are not permanent. So, I believe the purpose of mega evolution is to add a new twist to player strategies. As an example, mega evolution can, possibly, be used to cover type disadvantages.
I can kind of see where you are coming from when you refer to it as a gimmick. And, perhaps, it is. But, then, could I not say the same for Giratina? Did that Pokemon really need an alternate form? Could I not say the Distortion world, as a whole, was nothing more than a gimmick to get players to repurchase a game they already have?

Re: Pokemon X and Y: Charizard X
I can halfway understand legendary Pokémon having different forms. Some of them even put it to interesting use, like Deoxys. I'm unfamiliar with the distortion world 'cuz I've never been there.
But to me, this case is just blatant grab-at-your-wallet fan service. Charizard needed this like we needed yet another electrified rodent.
Don't get me wrong; I'm still a fan. I just wish they'd try to be more creative than resort to dumb gimmicks and items called "Charizardite." Geez, even 'Chardite' would sound better. Sigh...
