Welcome to SWC 2.0 Empty Welcome to SWC 2.0

Post by DarkMarth Wed Dec 26, 2012 5:29 am

Welcome to SWC 2.0!

Seeing as how things were a bit cluttered before, I took the time to rethink the forum layout making it more user friendly and easier to navigate. No longer will we have to go through various unnecessary sub forums. We can now access our desired forum directly from the front page.

Let me go over the new layout with you all. Do keep in mind that some forums are private to members only. This means that our guest viewers will have no access to these forums unless they register as a SWC member.

The Welcome Category
The welcome category contains two forums (only one if you are a guest viewer). The Information forum gives both newcomers and guests more information about our community. This includes our history and Rules & Regulations.

The second forum is the Introduction forum (members only). This forum is where newcomers can introduce themselves to the rest of the community. I do want to note that introductions will no longer take place in a dedicated thread. Instead, each member will have to create their own introduction topic. This approach gives the individual newcomer the undivided attention of the other members welcoming him or her.

What about older members? No worries! You guys don't have to reintroduce yourself. In the Introduction forum, there is a locked topic called "Older Users". This is basically our old introductions thread created during the first day we migrated to the forums.

The News Category
The news category consists of three forums that consists of news posts regarding their respective categories, and is open to the public. However, only members may create news posts and comment.

The Discussions Category
The discussions category consists of four forums (three if you are a guest viewer).

The first forum is dedicated for discussions relating to Super Smash Brothers.

The second forum is dedicated to game related discussions. This can be from any game. However, since we are a Nintendo enthusiast community, it is recommended you keep things to a Nintendo-ish level. But feel free to talk about other games if you wish.

The third forum (if you are a member) is dedicated to discussions regarding SmashWorldCommunity. This is where we discuss forum changes and enhancements, logo design, and so on. (Note: This is a member only forum and is not visible to guest viewers)

The last forum is the Open discussions forum. Here is where you can let your imagination run free and talk about anything your heart desires...okey, that sounds lame but you get the point Smile

This is also open to the public. But only registered members may create new topics and comment.

The Community Category
This category is where all the community's content and activities go. These include stages, snapshots, videos, reviews, and brawl invitations for those who like brawling.

In this category, everything but the brawl invitations forum is open to the public. However, rights to create topics and comments rests in the hands of only the registered members of SWC.

The Support Category
Do you need any help with anything? Do you have a question or concern about the community or forums? Let us know. We will try our best to assist you as much as possible.

This is just the. Beginning. Lugia and I have been thinking of new features and activities for next year. And you too can come up with your own activities and events to share with the rest of us.

Well, there you have it guys. This concludes our tour of SWC 2.0! I hope you all find it to your liking and feel free to ask any of the staff members if you have any questions or suggestions.

Excellent update. I especially like the new "Member Introductions" forum, since we can have a topic for each introduction instead of one topic for all introductions. The old way, as you said, gives each member the attention they should get. I also like that we can access each sub-forum with just one click.

Not really related to the update, but I noticed with this skin that there's no longer the "Merry Christmas" thing when you go over a forum. That's a good thing, since we were trying to get rid of that for a while.

Thanks Lugia! I'm glad you like it. It actually took a while to get done (pretty much all night...cuz well, I couldn't sleep for some reason lol), but I'm very proud of the end result.

I do hope it satisfies everyone. And if there are any more issues, we can discuss how to handle them, in future updates, privately in the Staff forum.

But I'm glad we finally got rid of all the clutter.

Wow, DarkMarth, I can tell you really put a lot of time and effort into this. I can honestly say the forums are much better as a result.

Wait, there's a staff forum? Aww....I'm missing out.... Razz

Thanks ZeldaFan! Yes, I did put a lot of time and effort into this—all night yesterday, as a matter of fact. But it's all worth it in my perspective.

And don't worry about the staff forum. It is just a private forum for the staff members (currently Lugia and I) to discuss current issues in the forums, propose and evaluate new events and features to be added to the forum and other staff like business.

We might begin expanding the staff when the need arises though. But for now, with the current number of active members and level of activity, it is not necessary unless one of the staff members resigns for any reason.

Nice job DarkMarth. I quite like what you've done with the place. I think that the formal structure is almost wasted on a community of our size, but oh well, it's nicer to navigate anyway.

I'm glad the threads stopped wishing me 'Merry Christmas.' Everything else looks good, too! Except the Calendar is just a little square 1 in the middle of the top bar. ._.
